CAPED CRUSADERS
We´ve got you Covered with Eco Friendly Capes and Ponchos By Bonny Osterhage
This is the time of year when I begin to sound a bit like Goldilocks while I’m getting dressed. This cardigan’s too light and this coat is too heavy — but this poncho? Just right! I have always been a fan of capes and ponchos, not only for the perfect amount of warmth they provide, but also for the way they can make my default uniform of jeans and t-shirts look like a well thought out plan. Lots of fabulous eco friendly clothing designers have turned into caped crusaders this season, affording me many more options when it comes to wrapping up responsibly. And when it comes to sharing these great wraps — White Apricot’s got you covered!
Our Top 10 stories now call out which finds are "ECOnomical" (good for the Planet and your wallet) and which are worthwhile "Splurges" (in our humble opinion).

SERIOUSLY?!
Luck Stinks
Feeling down on your luck? Just dangle a Japanese Lucky Golden Poo from around your neck, the zipper of your coat or your cell phone, and watch as things begin to look up! Yes, in some sort of weird play on words, the Japanese have designed this lovely pile of poo to make fun of the fact that the Japanese word for “lucky” is very similar to “poo.” SERIOUSLY?!
Even as a joke, this is just gross. The stink of it is that people are actually willing to part with even $5 bucks for this thing. But, our favorite part has to be that they actually advertise attaching it to your Wii remote control for more luck with your gaming. SERIOUSLY?! There is even a two-pack of poo to share the good luck with a friend. We’re not sure about our luck, but we sure know this idea stinks. $3.99-$4.99 at www.thinkgeek.com.

LOOK GOOD, DO GOOD
Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness ECOnomically
Face it — in this economy, every study you read shows that philanthropic donations are down, down, down. With just a few days left of October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (although it should be an all year endeavor), you can do your part to support the cause — and do it ECOnomically with our inexpensive fashion and beauty finds. So, let’s see — get your fashion fix, keep within your budget, support a very important cause and the companies that are trying to make a difference. Gotta’ love that! So TADA (or in this case TATA), here are our top three picks!

Jane Iredale Sugar and Butter Lip Exfoliater and Plumper in Pheonix
This popular duo got a new name in honor of the women who rise above cancer — Pheonix. Made from natural ingredients, it features a brown sugar treatment on one side that gently exfoliates and a pink tinted plumper on the other side. Jane Iredale will donate $2 from each sale to Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Now that’s something to smile about! $24 at www.janeiredale.com.

OKA b Shoes That Love You
This one is all about bringing a smile to brave women. During October, OKA b is giving a free pair of its adorable vegan, recyclable shoes, as a token of support to women currently undergoing breast cancer treatment, for every pair you buy — up to 50,000 pairs! There are a myriad of styles and colors, but we were drawn to these adorable Avery mules with their on-trend bows. The Avery is ON SALE FOR $25 (normally $30) at www.shoesthatloveyou.com.

Shashi Share Love, Spread Awareness Bracelets
One for me, two for you is the idea behind these delicately pretty bracelets, created by CFDA Fashion Incubator members Danna Kobo and Yuvi Alpert of Shashi. The designers created the limited edition style with the intention that the buyer keeps one and gives the other two to loved ones (although they are so cute it might be tempting to keep all three). Created in partnership with Intermix and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, 100% of the proceeds go to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. $48 at www.intermixonline.com.
