BLACK AND WHITE AND GREEN
ALL OVER

Our Top 10 Black and White Eco Friendly Clothing and Accessory Styles

By Bonny Osterhage

The stark contrast of black and white is timeless, classic and, thanks to these eco fashion designers, safe for the planet.  It is a never-fail combination that can go from the boardroom to the ballroom and anywhere in between. This season black and white is making a statement against the sea of blues and pops of pink. Powerful without being overpowering, basic but never boring, the following designs show just how colorful life can be in black and white.

..SERIOUSLY?!

....Gum Blondes

Seriously?! We love art…We love the creative minds of artists…We love artists who find beauty in recycled materials.  But, we would really like to get inside the head of artist Jason Kronenwald and find out where he came up with the idea to recycle chewed gum into works of art. Seriously?! His “Gum Blondes” collection is a series of works of famous blondes, from Britney (left) and Paris to Marilyn Monroe and Hillary, made out of 100% chewed gum on plywood. His “palette” comes from using all kinds of different flavors and colors of gum. He actually has a team of “chewers” because he doesn’t like to chew the gum himself and the colors are actually mixed in the chewers’ mouths. Seriously?! How’d you like to have that job?! We have to admit the portraits are actually pretty cool — it’s the materials and process that makes us kind of squeamish. We’re told he prefers Trident… www.gumblondes.com

PUTTING FUN INTO
FUNCTION WITH FUZ

Eco conscious designer Josh Jakus first proved that fun can be functional with his UM collection, a line of “shape-shifting” bags, made from factory excess wool that unzip flat for storage and cleaning. Now Jakus is taking those same principles of fun and function and applying them to

FUZ, a unique and provocative line of home accessories. Made in the USA, FUZ products are efficiently produced, primarily from recycled or excess products.

Imagine setting the table with brightly colored wool or recycled rubber placemats, each with a person-shaped napkin ring built right in. Simply punch the person out, wrap it around your napkin and voilà — a dinner party icebreaker! The “napkin hugs” are also sold separately in sets of four. Or, make your to-do lists on “Dusty,” a person-shaped recycled wood chalkboard, who comes with his very own scrap felt dog eraser. His friend “Corky,” made from excess cork, is pretty cute too. The whimsical collection also includes baskets and lighting. www.fuzfarm.com.
