HEAVY METALS
Louboutin, Prada and D&G aren’t the Only Designers Showing Metallics this Season — Check out our Top 10 Eco Friendly Picks!
By Bonny Osterhage
If you really want to sparkle and shine this season, turn up the metal. Metallic hues of silver, gold and copper are no longer relegated to the back of the closet and forgotten until the holiday season. Instead, they are showing up loud and proud in the middle of summer on everything from bags and shoes to tees and dresses. Maybe it’s because nothing sets off a beautiful tan better than something in a rich and shimmery shade. Maybe it’s because it’s more affordable than precious metal jewelry in an uncertain economy. Maybe it’s because just a hint of it can turn that same old outfit into something really special. Whatever the reason, we love this look and, after shopping these eco fashion metallic options, so will you!
SERIOUSLY?!
Well…the Thought is There…
The designer behind the LooWatt is trying to provide a solution to the 40% of people in the world who don’t have toilets. Okay… but what was the rationale for building said toilet out of horse poop? Seriously?! The LooWatt is a waterless toilet system where you take care of business into a biodegradable lining, which you then transport into your own “biodigester,”which turns it into fuel for cooking, which you then eat and, lo and
behold, need to poop again…kind of like the “circle of life”… only with poop. If you want to help fund the actual production of the LooWatt, you will get your very own lovely “poo gem” or “deer-head candle holder” (shown right), made out of…you guessed it. Seriously?! We think this whole concept just stinks. Watch the video.
Our New Favorite Must Have Accessory!
No, it’s not shoes, a handbag, jewelry or a scarf, but walk down the street with this accessory hanging off your hand and we guarantee people are going to ask where you got it! Called the KOR ONE Hydration Vessel (the name's a little over the top, we admit), the design is both sleek and practical and the Eastman Tritan™ material it’s made from is BPA-free. The ergonomic
little works of art have an integrated handle and a thumb release cap, so you only need one hand (no more screw tops). Colors are great — Ice Blue, Sawgrass Green, Sunrise Orange and Orchid Pink — and 1% of sales from each one is donated to a water-related organization associated with that particular bottle.
Finally, the bottles seek to inspire you, coming with four “KOR Stones,” disc-shaped tokens that fit inside the cap with a message that provides a little bit of motivation, like “laugh often” and “never settle.” A little pricey at $29.95, but come on… you’d splurge way more than that for other accessories! www.korwater.com.
