A WHALE OF AN IDEA...
Often in our travels, we run across an eco fashion line that brings a huge smile to our faces because it’s just so fun and unique… a “what creative mind came up with this” kind of thing. Such is the case with these cuff bracelets, made out of recycled neckties from Narwhal Co. How cute are these! Designer Court Godfrey started out making other products out of ties, like wallets and business card holders, and realized he still had the skinnier end of the ties to deal with. Rather than letting them go to waste,he came up with the idea to make these cuffs. We salute the no waste effort! The mother of pearl snap button closures on the cuffs come from old western shirts. Each bracelet is a one-of-a-kind, but there are lots of styles to choose from.
Okay, so you’re probably wondering about the name of the company… Nar-what?! Well, we asked Court about this. Whi the name really has nothing to do with the product, a in fact, was the name of his cousin’s intramural collegebasketball team, we learned that aNarwhal is actually a small artic whale that could be described as a unicorn whale. Pretty creative and whimsical…just like the bracelets. www.narwhalcompany.com.

GREEN HIGHS AND LOWS AT NEW YORK FASHION WEEK
New York Fashion week had some highs and lows on the eco fashion front. The high was the Be EcoChic campaign fashion show, held at the American Museum of Natural History, and the low was definitely the DKNY fur debacle.
First the high…
The Be EcoChic fashion show was co-sponsored by the Be EcoChic campaign and the Sierra Club. The event was hosted by supermodel/ actress, Angela Lindvall, who currently co-stars with Adrian Grenier on
Planet Green’s AlterEco. Walking down the runway
under a rather huge suspended whale, it featured celebrities, like Lauren Hutton (pictured above in a Maggie Norris Couture military coat), Law & Order SVU’s Tamara Tunie (pictured far left in a B. Michael recycled and reconstructed quilted ball gown) and many more, modeling eco friendly haute fashion from designers, including Carmen Marc Valvo, Del Forte and Nicole Miller. Grenier (above left) was on hand to support his cast mate.

Now the low…
Donna Karan’s DKNY fashion show was pretty much driven to a halt by PETA protesters, jumping onto the stage. Evidently, the designer had promised not to use fur anymore in her collections and didn’t stick to it. Security got them out before Karan took her bow, but it must have been quite the spectacle for the audience, including all the actresses in the front row…Nicole Ritchie, Christina Ricci, Kate Bosworth and Winona Ryder. We don’t even want to tell you about the protesters outside. Let’s just say the color red was very prominent and it involved rabbit suits...
MOP AND GO
by Bonny Osterhage

Can you really feed your hair in the same way that you feed your body? The folks at Modern Organic Products (MOP) think so, and it is that philosophy that has led to their award winning line of shampoos, conditioners and styling products. Developed by a stylist, MOP products are created using organic and food derived ingredients that quickly and effectively nourish and restructure the hair in much the same way that good nutrition nourishes the body. Although the products are divided into three categories, they are designed to be mixed and matched to create your own personal hair cocktail. The Core Products are suitable for every hair type, while the Glisten Products enhance body and shine.
We are partial to the C-System Products that are sulfite free and offer antioxidant support and UV Protection, restoring a silky softness to color treated and coarse hair. One blond staffer fell in love with the way it made her thick double-processed tresses turn from amber waves of grain to spun gold after just a few uses. Need further proof it works? Look at Portia De Rossi’s luxurious mane. The new Mrs. Ellen De Generes is rumored to be a MOP top! You can be one too at www.bathandbodyworks.com. See the complete line of products, as well as suggestions on how to blend them, at www.mopproducts.com.
IF "GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK,"... THEN LETS
REALLY GO GREEN!
by Carrie Pollare, Editor
I don’t know about you, but the phrase “Green is the New Black” is getting a little old for me. Sure, I love the sentiment, that eco friendly clothes are becoming as important as black is to all of our wardrobes, but it’s becoming a bit cliché. So, I figure, if we’re going to go green, let’s really go green. Let’s just say I’m starting my own trend. There are some fabulous, truly luscious, deep green styles that are perfect, fashion forward, green statements for fall. Here are 10 of our favorites. So, let’s go green!
Seriously?" is the place we
bring you eco products & stories that
are (how can we say) crazy, nuts or
"over the top."

From the “now we’ve seen it all” file, comes bottled water for…wait for it…your dog. Now, we’re all for pampering your precious pooch, but this is just sick. Pouring more plastic bottles into the landfills to make a buck off this kind of a gimmick? Seriously?! The idea is that some dogs don’t like chlorinated water, but, come on, can a dog really tell the difference between spring and tap water…and then refuse tap water? My dog drinks out of puddles in the street when I'm not looking! Now, maybe if the water came out of the toilet…
LAUREL AT LARGE
THE PERFECTED PLIABLE FINDS A HOME IN YOUR HOME
by Laurel House
Plastic, as I am sure you are well aware by
now, is one of my favorite eco blunders to bash… which is why finding fabulous repurposed uses for the petroleum-based pliable is one of my many life fixations. We have explored the fashion potential of fabricating plastic into the creation of recycled and repurposed clothes and accessories. Because there is just so much plastic to be repurposed (lest you forget the 100 million tons of plastic products floating in the Great Garbage Patch in the middle of the ocean), I have set my sights on home design and come up with some pretty nifty, if not honestly gorgeous, have-to-have-it, repurposed plastic stuff.
