White Apricot

Don't know how many of you saw Britney Spears' performance last night on "How I Met Your Mother," but in conjunction with her appearance, her wardrobe from the show is being auctioned off to benefit the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). The auction began right after the episode aired last night and as if this morning,
it's already at more
than $3,500.

Bad hair day? Throw your mop into this great baseball cap from PAZ. Produced in Brazil, the cap is made from recycled canvas, previously used by truckers to protect their cargo, and a new faux leather made by Amazonian natives from sustainable plant matter. The line also includes outback style hats and bags. By the way, PAZ means "peace" in Brazilian Portugese. Peace out.
NEW SPRING ARRIVALS FOR NATALIE PORTMAN VEGAN SHOE COLLECTION Natalie Portman has added several new spring styles to her vegan shoe collection in collaboration with retailer Té Casan. The new styles range from dressy high heels in satin to casual flat sandals in faux snake and faux suede. Colors include silver metallic, natural tones, wardrobe staple black, pale pink and even bright purple. Our favorites are the Plath satin pump with a chiffon pompom in purple (shown right) or pale pink, the Pana silver faux snake flat sandal (shown below) and the Painefaux suede DEBORAH LINDQUIST SPRING 2008 COLLECTION The designer calls it "Beatnick Meets the Goddess Lakshmi" - We call it hot!
Deborah Lindquist is one of our favorite environmentally-conscious designers. And, as usual, we are salivating over her newest collection. Why do we love Deborah? It's because, as one of the true pioneers of the eco fashion movement, her creations are always unique couture-inspired stand-outs, but incredibly wearable at the same time. No wonder she has so many celebrity fans, including Sharon Stone, Gwen Stefani and Charlize Theron.
Her spring 2008 collection is no exception, a wonderful combination of fashion-forward tops, shorts, pants and dresses, including many pieces with her signature recycled cashmere appliques and bustiers in both lucious spring colors and neutrals. Other fabrics are peace silk (moths come out of the cocoon instead of being boiled as worms), hemp blends of hemp/silk, tencel and organic cotton. You can see the collection and a list of stores
Artists are amazing... How does someone come up with making wonderful recycled jewelry out of discarded Coca-Cola bottles? Kudos to designer Kathleen Plate for her simple, yet incredibly striking Smart Glass Jewelry collection of necklaces and earrings, hand-made from the body or neck of Coca-Cola Actresses Katherine Heigl and Sienna Miller (pictured left wearing Smart Glass earrings) are fans. And all of this from an interest in stained glass when she was a little girl... www.smartglassjewelry.com STEP "GRACEFULLY" INTO SPRING Saint Grace has been one of my favorite labels for several years. The buttery soft fabrics and fashion forward separates are so easy to mix and match. Now with the debut of their Organic collection, I have another reason to add more Saint Grace items to my wardrobe. The Organic line features chic dresses and tops, like my All of the items are made of 100% American organic cotton and are flawlessly feminine. OUR PICKS FOR THE TOP 11 ECO FRIENDLY HANDBAG DESIGNERS We love handbags almost as much as we love shoes. Okay...maybe some of us love
So, this dress is just absolutely too cute for words! It's called the Accordion Dress in Carrotjuice and it's 100% organic cotton from Popomomo. Even the name of the company is cute! It comes from "Post-Post Modern Movement"...get it?...which is how designer Liz Wasserman describes her inspiration for the eco friendly fashion line, which also uses only vegetable dyes and washes. Liz hails from designing for Urban Outfitters and Free People and all of the pieces in this collection have incredibly cool shapes and draping. We just happen to like this dress the most for spring and summer because it's bright and easy to wear. At $178, the price is good too and...added bonus...since it's one size fits most, it makes it easy to order online! We suggest pairing it with a tank underneath and a flat gladiator sandal and you'll be stylin'! You should also check out Popomomo's gathered tunics and other dresses, like the one shoulder Hera dress. You can see the entire collection at www.popomomo.com or buy it at www.sodafine.com.
This falls under the "we thought you should know" category. Nordstrom and Macy's are taking small steps to be kinder and gentler to the environment. Nordstrom will be moving to all recyclable shopping bags and gift boxes this year. The company will begin to roll out the cotton-handled shopping bags this month with plans to introduce the gift boxes, made out of recycled paper stock, in time for the holiday season. Nordstrom has also introduced a reusable tote bag, currently available in its west coast stores, but set to expand nationwide. The brushed metallic linen tote features an illustration by artist Ruben Toledo of such U.S. landmarks as the Space Needle, the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge. It also zips up into a small pouch and can be yours for $21.95. You can read more details at www.nordstrom.com. On to Macy's... Macy's has announced a new partnership with the National Park Foundation with a whole lot of activities planned around this union. In celebration of Earth Week (what a surprise...) and National Park Week, the collaboration is part of Macy's "Turn Over a New Leaf" environmental awareness campaign that will run from April 20th through April 27th, complete with its own "100% natural cotton" reusable tote bag for $3.95 with $1 from each one sold going to National Park Foundation. And then there are the events...lots and lots of events...the charity shopping event...the Earth Day celebration...it just goes on and on...and the contests...don't forget the contests!. Get the details at www.macys.com or www.nationalparks.org.
It makes us so happy when an eco friendly shoe brand actually makes stylish, right in the moment, shoes When Toby Pomeroy dropped out of school (in his fourth year pre-med no less) to design jewelry, he probably had no idea that his high-end, environmentally friendly designs would be featured in magazines, on the Today Show and even on the earlobes of one Miss Cameron Diaz. But his simple, elegant styles, combined with his passion as an environmentalist, have made Pomeroy one of the most sought after jewelry designers. Made from reclaimed or recycled precious metals and ethically derived diamonds, Pomeroy’s creations start as a single piece of this EcoGold or EcoSilver, which is expertly shaped and worked into something wonderful, often with diamonds and other colored gemstones incorporated into the design. The result is a timeless classic that is both lightweight and durable. Signature pieces of the Toby Pomeroy line include the Eclipse pendants, the Waterfall drop earrings and the Cuff bracelets. All are created with or without diamonds and all are designed with Pomeroy’s innate sense of creating designs that make a woman look and feel beautiful. It isn’t often when the finer things in life are socially conscious, but Toby Pomeroy Fine Jewelry marries the two worlds beautifully. www.tobypomeroy.com
