The holidays are your time to shine (after all, you’ve got all those twinkly lights to compete with). But with so many parties, dinners and other festive fun, it becomes easy for a gal to lose her sparkle and start to stress — especially when it comes to choosing what to wear.
I love any holiday that requires gift giving! Why? Because it allows me to indulge in my favorite pastime — shopping — and enjoy the ultimate satisfaction of finding just the right present for every person on my list. I imagine their happy faces when they see how the carefully chosen gift reflects their interests, hobbies or lifestyles.
November has us thinking about colder weather — finally — bundling up in eco friendly chunky knit sweaters and cozy gloves, sporting the seasons best vegan boots and warmest coats. Then, there are the holidays coming — meaning what do we wear to all those upcoming soirées.
Sure, nothing screams sexy like a sky-high stiletto, but let’s face it — it isn’t always comfortable teetering on those three-inch (or higher) slender heels. Fortunately, the kitten heel is making a comeback, thanks in part to shows, such as Mad Men, and the resurgence of all things retro.
This is the time of year when I begin to sound a bit like Goldilocks while I’m getting dressed. This cardigan’s too light and this coat is too heavy — but this poncho? Just right! I have always been a fan of capes and ponchos, not only for the perfect amount of warmth they provide, but also for the way they can make my default uniform of jeans and t-shirts look like a well thought out plan.
I often joke that if you cut off my hands, I wouldn’t be able to speak. The more passionate I get about a topic, the faster my hands fly. Clearly, I operate under the assumption that, the larger the gestures, the more likely you are to agree with me (or maybe I am hoping to distract you from the fact that I could be wrong — who knows?).
It is inexplicable to me why some trends can barely make it through one season, while others roll from season to season like a snowball, gathering momentum until they become larger than when they were first introduced. When military first made a blip on our radar last season (click here for that story), it was mostly in the form of bags, boots and the occasional jacket or slouchy shirt.
When it comes to boots, I cannot have enough. My closet is filled with knee high, ankle, zippered, pull on and cowboy (I am from Texas after all) boots, that I lovingly unpack at the first sign of a chill in the air. Just when I thought I had a boot for every outfit, along comes a trend that makes me wish I had held onto the Doc Martens of my youth.
Every once in a while, our sense of what is ethically responsible and our love of what is currently fashionable collide. After all, we are strongly committed to bringing you the best of both worlds. So, when a trend, like the insanely hot animal prints, is on every fashion designer’s runway, we once again find ourselves torn.
Gone are the days of throwing everything you own into an oversized “slouchy” purse and slinging it over your shoulder boho style. No, this season’s ladylike fashions require you to accessorize with clean lines and straightforward shapes. That doesn’t mean that you have to abandon your individuality or get by with only half your necessities.
Being green is always first and foremost on our minds at White Apricot, but this fall it is on our minds in more ways than one. Of course, we are concerned about the environment, but we are also captivated by the colo,r green, which is showing up in a spectrum of hues on some of our favorite eco friendly fashions.
You live long enough, you see trends come and go — and come again. Some we hope will stay away (parachute pants anyone?), while others we welcome back with open arms (hello leggings). Thanks to Karl Lagerfeld sending Chanel clogs down the spring/summer runway, this season will see the strongest return to the clog that we have witnessed since the flower power days.
I’M READY FOR FALL! There, I said it. It happens to me every summer around this transitional time. All the magazines are showing fall fashion, but I’m still in shorts and tank tops. It’s the time when the calendar says fall, but the temperature didn’t get the memo and can’t make up its mind.
In the world of eco friendly fashion, few things are as versatile as a well made t-shirt. The right tee can work hard from 9 to 5 under a blazer, and play hard on the weekend with your favorite pair of jeans.
Every woman knows that having something (or someone) attractive on her arm is often the only accessory she needs. Well, we may not be able to help you with the someone, but we can offer you a few somethings that are sure to turn a few heads.
We admit that we sometimes find it difficult to concentrate during yoga, which may be why we noticed the parade of fashion forward sportswear jogging, stretching and spinning its way through our local gym. Let’s face it — most of us are so busy that finding the time to exercise is a challenge.
There is a common misconception that in order to dress green, you must spend lots of the green stuff. While that may have been true several years ago, eco friendly fashion has become so mainstream that it is now possible to score clothing and accessories at the same (if not lower) prices than the less socially responsible brands.
A white out in the middle of summer? You betcha! If you don’t believe us, take a look around. White clothing, white bags, white accessories — nothing but white as far as the eye can see. Like Broadway addicts, every summer we return to the Great White Way because, let’s face it, nothing looks hotter against sun kissed skin than white.
You’ve got a drink in your hand, your toes in the sand — does life get any better than this?! We don’t think so and that’s why we have rounded up everything you need for your perfect day at the beach. From the essentials to the extras, we’ve got you covered with eco friendly clothing,
July and August are typically the hottest months of summer, and those shorts and capris can start to feel a bit confining. Don’t sweat it! Just rethink the way you dress for summer by, well, picking up a dress for summer. We love the easy, breezy appeal of these lightweight eco friendly dresses that let the air circulate around your body
