T-SHIRT RECYCLING IN HAUTE STYLE

An Eco Evening at Barneys, Beverly Hills

Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward at the Barneys, Loomstate, Sundance Channel T-Shirt Recycling Event

It was definitely a "scene" at Barneys' VIP T-shirt Recycling Program kick-off party in Beverly Hills on Tuesday night. The gang behind the collaboration between The Sundance Channel, Loomstate and Barneys were all there (shown below), along with a lot of "beautiful" guests, and so were a whole lot of old t-shirts, making their way into bins set up all around the event. While we told you about the program in a previous story, the whole idea is that Kelly Slater at Barneys T-shirt Recycling Eventbetween now and April 27th, you need to gather up your old t-shirts and get them to any Barneys store, where the donation bins await you. Loomstate will then work its magic to "refashion" your cast-offs into a brand new limited edition collection to be sold exclusively at Barneys for the Holiday 2008 season. Surfing star Kelly Slater (right) dropped off his shirts. Very cool concept. Very cool event.

Barneys T-shirt Recycling EventThe t-shirt recycling program marks the beginning of the second season of the Sundance Channel's "The Green." Sundance is actually the first network to dedicate a primetime TV destination to environmental programming. We got to talk to Executive Vice President, Marketing, Branded Entertainment & Sponsorship, Kirk Iwanowski, from Sundance (shown far left in photo above), who told us that this recycling program represents a true cradle to cradle story because "you give us something you're not wearing and we'll turn it into clothes you want to wear again." He also explained that "The Green" is "reconceiving the green life" by showing viewers that they can make positive changes for the Planet without giving up style or quality of life. Go Sundance! They're playing our song!

Actress Zooey Deschanel, who has a beautiful voice, and musician M. Ward of She & Him (shown at the top) performed for the crowd. We also saw some really great clothes from Loomstate for Barneys Green. But more on that later...
