DEBORAH LINDQUIST SPRING 2008 COLLECTION
The designer calls it "Beatnick Meets the Goddess Lakshmi" - We call it hot!
Deborah Lindquist is one of our favorite environmentally-conscious designers. And, as usual, we are salivating over her newest collection. Why do we love Deborah? It's because, as one of the true pioneers of the eco fashion movement, her creations are always unique couture-inspired stand-outs, but incredibly wearable at the same time. No wonder she has so many celebrity fans, including Sharon Stone, Gwen Stefani and Charlize Theron.
Her spring 2008 collection is no exception, a wonderful combination of fashion-forward tops, shorts, pants and dresses, including many pieces with her signature recycled cashmere appliques and bustiers in both lucious spring colors and neutrals. Other fabrics are peace silk (moths come out of the cocoon instead of being boiled as worms), hemp blends of hemp/silk, tencel and organic cotton. You can see the collection and a list of stores
carrying the line at www.deborahlindquist.com or order the old fashioned way by calling
818-762-7199. If you live in LA, make sure you visit Deborah's brand new store at 10500 Magnolia Blvd. in the Toluca Woods/Noho Arts District.
Artists are amazing... How does someone come up with making wonderful recycled jewelry out of discarded Coca-Cola bottles? Kudos to designer Kathleen Plate for her simple, yet incredibly striking Smart Glass Jewelry collection of necklaces and
earrings, hand-made from the body or neck of Coca-Cola bottles on sterling silver chain. Or, if you're more of a beer and wine girl, the rest of the recycled collection is pretty great too, made from amber colored beer bottles, Perrier bottles, Sky Vodka bottles and all kinds of wine bottles. (The designer must be very hydrated...)
Actresses Katherine Heigl and Sienna Miller (pictured left wearing Smart Glass earrings) are fans. And all of this from an interest in stained glass when she was a little girl... www.smartglassjewelry.com

No one was surprised when brothers Dean and Davis Factor, the great-grandsons of cosmetic legend Max Factor, started Smashbox cosmetics. Today, Smashbox is the go to make-up brand for photographers, make-up artists and celebrities.
With a strong commitment to philanthropic and environmental endeavors, the company has introduced the Green Room Spring 2008 Color Collection. The line features bronzers and lip glosses, made from environmentally friendly formulas and sold in biodegradable or recyclable packaging. In addition, with the purchase of any Green Room product, a Moringa or “Miracle Tree” will be planted in a developing country by Trees for the Future. These trees are described as a “powerhouse of nutritional value” and provide people in need with a self-renewing food source. Green Room cosmetics actually contain Moringa seed extract for healthy skin benefits. And, of course, more trees equal cleaner air, cleaner water and less soil erosion. We think that’s simply smashing! www.smashbox.com

Saint Grace has been one of my favorite labels for several years.
The buttery soft fabrics and fashion forward separates are so easy to mix and match. Now with the debut of their Organic collection, I have another reason to add more Saint Grace items to my wardrobe. The Organic line features chic dresses and tops, like my personal favorites, the ‘Tula’ dress (shown left in natural, but the emerald green is special too!) or the ‘Kara’ top in lavender (the same style that Keira Knightley wears).
All of the items are made of 100% American organic cotton and are flawlessly feminine. Saint Grace proves that going green doesn’t have to compromise your fashion sense. See the entire collection and find a store near you at www.saintgrace.com.
Spring just makes you want to get right outdoors, doesn't it? Okay, maybe it's still a little cold, but 'fess up, you're just itching to start spending more time outside. We know we are! Get your yard ready with this great line of all-weather furniture from Loll Designs, made out of...are you ready?...mostly recycled plastic milk jugs, detergent bottles, margarine tubs, and garbage containers! The technical term is "post consumer HDPE," a material or finished product that has essentially been rescued from disposal after its life as a consumer product.
In any case, the furniture is really stylish with a broad selection of tables, chairs, ottomans and more, looks expensive but is priced well, requires no maintenance and the colors just make us happy! Don't worry, for those of you who like the natural look, there are earthy tones too. Ty Pennington from Extreme Make-over, Home Edition and Martha Stewart have both featured it on their television shows. Check it out at www.lolldesigns.com.
