I’ve been covering eco fashion for quite some time now. I’ve watched our industry evolve and reported on amazing designers and companies, all on a mission to help the Planet. By bringing all of this information to you, White Apricot makes a difference, but I’ve always felt we could and should do more.

So, that said, my brother Dan and I have created a product that gives back…significantly — an eco friendly, very cool (if I do say so myself), very inexpensive bracelet that everyone can afford, with the mission of donating half the sale of each one to charities that support important causes. And, yes… I’m introducing it to you in White Apricot, which seems self serving, but it’s not. The bracelets are designed to make a difference in the world and raise a lot of money for important causes.

Meet the “I’m Tired” collection of bracelets, made from recycled tires and metals. They retail for just $10 each and half of each bracelet ($5 each) will be donated to charities, supporting one of 10 causes, from world hunger and global warming to cancer and autism, issues in our world that we are all tired of. Each bracelet represents a cause and has the words “I’m Tired of” and the cause emblazoned on the bead.

This project is very personal for my brother and me. We lost our father to heart disease when I was just 10 years old and he was 7. Our father was only 37. We also lost our step father to cancer and mother to Alzheimer’s. And, of course, I’m very passionate about the Planet’s problems, like global warming and animal cruelty. I’m sure all of you have your own stories and passions.

So, please, go check out www.ImTiredOnline.com. Our first 10 causes are AIDS, Autism, Animal Cruelty, Alzheimer’s, Cancer, Child Abuse, Diabetes, Global Warming, Heart Disease and World Hunger. You can also vote for causes you’d like us to add. In these difficult financial times, they’ll make meaningful and inexpensive holiday gifts. It is through word of mouth that the effort could explode and we could raise millions of dollars to fight the world’s issues. Come on… Make a fashion statement that can truly make a difference in the world. I can’t wait to see people walking down the street in these bracelets.

THE TRUTH ABOUT FACIALS

by Laurel House

Laurel House

There are massage people and there are facial people. I am not a facial person…never have been. And honestly, I believe that my rationale for overtly avoiding the (in my opinion) oddly touted treatment, makes total sense. They are (again, in my opinion) a big fat waste of time and money. The reason behind my dislike of the hour long wipe on, wipe off procedure is exactly that… The therapist wipes on a mask, then wipes it off…wipes on a scrub, then wipes it off, etc., etc…. Where’s the talent in that?

Now, compare the pro-wipers to massage The Truth About Facialstherapists, who break a sweat while stroking the mangled mess that inhabits your back, until somehow, the knots break down and bliss becomes you. But, that’s just in the case of a deep tissue massage… I also take issue with Swedish massages that are basically brush strokes along the skin. (My dog’s tail can do that for free!)

My issue with facials is rooted in the fact that, most of the time, I pay for a treatment that I could have administered to myself, minus a few extra bells and whistles, EXCEPT for a few instances in which facials are worth (in my opinion) every dime. Yes, the anti-facial Queen does indulge in a good face rubdown every once in a while…my favorite...the facial massage. Celebrities, such as Madonna, Lauren Graham, Julia Roberts, Mandy Moore, and Sarah Jessica Parker are fans too.
