HOST AND HOSTESS!
by Carrie Pollare, Editor
Yes, it’s true. Thanksgiving is just a week away and we all know what that means. Not only will many of us be going to wonderful (hopefully organic) Thanksgiving feasts, but it also signals the beginning of the holiday party season. In that spirit, it’s always nice to show up with a lovely eco friendly gift for the host and/or hostess. Whether you want to spend $10 or $50, here’s the way we do it…eco style!
A NOTE OF THANKS…
by Carrie Pollare, Editor
I’m getting into the Thanksgiving spirit. It’s absolutely my favorite holiday. So, I want to take a moment to give thanks and say thank you for the tremendous response we’ve gotten to our new “I’m Tired of…” bracelets. It’s been overwhelming, spectacular and, quite frankly, a bit emotional, as people have come forward to share their stories with us about their causes. In just the few weeks since we introduced the bracelets, the orders have been pouring in. We’ve also had great media coverage in publications, like the Huffington Post, and many wonderful blogs and other websites (too many to list them all here) that are helping us spread the word. Heartfelt thanks to all.

We’re always on the lookout for eco friendly clothes that are casual, comfortable and stylish. The casual, comfortable part is usually pretty easy. It’s the stylish part that can sometimes be a challenge. That’s why we are excited to introduce you to a great collection that fits the bill. Made of 100% certified organic cotton, Haley K pants, hoodies, jackets, tees, tanks and more are what you absolutely want to wear on the weekends, whether you’re off to the farmer’s market, running errands or visiting friends. The vibe is casual, but with a lot of flair, including great original graphics and lots of different styles. See the fall 2008 collection and find a store near you at www.haleykclothing.com.
Newspapers reborn…as fashion… And, regardless of whether these unique accessories from Green Veranda are your style or not, you just have to admire the workmanship that went into making them. Look closely at the large round Sun bag, for example (top right). Each one of those
many, closely placed, circles is hand rolled, recycled newspaper, made by a fair trade co-op of 32 women in Brazil. It can take them up to two full days to make that handbag. Amazing! We really like the cute clutch (bottom right) and love the necklace (left), which reminds us of the classic Chanel camellia. Such a cool, recycled, statement piece. In addition, the company plants a tree in the US for every item sold and you have the option of selecting a non-profit organization to receive 10% of the profits from your purchase. www.greenveranda.com

There are few things in life more luxurious than a long, hot soak in the tub. Now, with the Bubble Bars from Lush, that guilty pleasure just got even more decadent. The festive bars look more like bath fizzies than bubble bath, but don’t be fooled. Crumble a Bubble Bar into warm running water and, instead of fizzling out, this product produces mounds and mounds of 100 percent vegetarian bubbles that fill your tub with glorious fragrance. Bubbles aside, all of the Lush products are handmade from fresh organic fruits and vegetables and the finest essential oils that gently cleanse the skin and leave it soft and smooth. $6.25 at www.lush.com.
