Fabulous Finds: "Soleful" PurposeLosing My "Baggage..." Fabulous Finds: "Soleful" PurposeFabulous Finds: "Soleful" Purpose

Chalk it up to increased airline security, but I still can’t help sulking a bit when my favorite and oh-so-expensive eye serum is demoted from first-class carry-on to the underbelly of an airplane. And while I am thankful that this increase in security allows me to arrive at my destination in one piece, sadly my favorite eye cream didn’t make it during my last excursion.

So, what is a high-maintenance gal to do when she finds herself stranded with no open department stores in sight? Make the best of it and head to the nearest grocery store for an over-the-counter quick fix. Unfortunately for me, the closest grocery store appeared in the form of a natural market where I searched in vain for anything with the highest percentage of wrinkle-reducing, skin firming, bag eliminating and eye de-puffing chemical concentrate.

With a sigh of resignation, I finally opted for the Revitalizing Eye Creme from Zia Natural Skincare (www.zianatural.com) because it promised to help with dark circles and skin firmness. Plus, being the product snob that I am, the nearly $40 price tag was additional affirmation that I was making the right choice but I wasn’t truly optimistic. Seriously, how could an eye cream lacking that all important retinoid perform to my high standards? However, the next morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I looked bright-eyed, fresh faced and ready to start the day.

Curious, I began to research the Zia cosmetic line and discovered that this delightful eye treatment really is the cat’s meow! It utilizes a plant extract from the rainforest called Cat’s Claw that, according to Zia, has been clinically proven to repair DNA damage and promote cellular renewal. Along with another active ingredient, Mulberry Bark, Cat’s Claw can improve discoloration caused not only by Father Time, but also by all those years spent trying to achieve the perfect tan.

Most importantly, I learned that this particular Zia product was the recipient of the 2006 Natural Health Beauty Award, which again appealed to my product snobbery and need for skin-care validation. After using the creme for the duration of my trip, I decided to bring it home with me and I’m still using Zia instead of my former high-end, chemical laden eye treatment. After all, for someone who’s known for over packing, it was nice to have less baggage—especially under my eyes!
