In the 80’s, we copied Madonna’s honestly horrendous crimped hair, colored scrunchies and layered lace. That now-extinct era was the end of the style-faulty fashion and hair-frying trend (thank God!), but one Madonna-ism still exists…sumptuous sheets!
As soon as Ms. M started to coo about those satin sheets in “Dress You Up” (You’ve got style, that’s what all the girls say, Satin sheets and luxuries so fine) and again in “Express Yourself” (Satin sheets are very romantic, What happens when you’re not in bed), I have dreamed about being wrapped up in the uber-sexy material that oozes style and romance. Unfortunately, despite M’s obsession with the stuff, satin isn’t quite the luxury that she sang about. If you want to slip around on a material that is truly luxurious, substitute silk for the Material Girl’s satin.
Satin is actually a synthetic fabric that is weaved to feel soft like silk. In 80’s lingo, one would say that satin is a poser, biting off silk’s status. (See, I still
have my roots firmly planted in those good old days! Am I dating myself?) True silk is 100% natural and made from the fiber spun by the silkworm as it constructs its cocoon. Okay, the thought of swaddling yourself in, essentially, a worm’s spooge isn’t exactly appealing. So erase that image and return your mental pic to Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” controversial bed scene. Even if you weren’t one of the lucky ones at that concert, I am sure you know what I am referring to…
More than being decadent draping on your bed, silk is hypo-allergenic, resists mites and it naturally contains 18 amino acids which help to calm the nervous system, reduce the signs of aging of the skin and minimize hair splitting. (Aren’t things that are “good for you” usually unappealing…like low-carb tortillas, instead of the lard-loaded variety at authentic Mexican restaurants, and flax-filled chocolate in lieu of the velvety smooth 70% cacao bars that instantly
dissolve upon coming in contact with your warm tongue. Sorry, visions of chocolate just can’t seem to escape my head! Back to silk…)
If you want to luxuriate in silk’s all natural anti-aging yumminess, you’ve got to get the best…I mean, why wouldn’t you?! Kumi Kookoon (www.kumikookoon.com) makes the most sumptuous slippery sheets, pillow cases, duvets and throws in decadently rich colors that simply ooze luxury. I love them and you should too. Go on, get swaddled.
